Join us for the final Unfinished Business event of 2026 and a “first look” into what’s next for the Shockoe Institute.
Marland Buckner, President & CEO, will moderate a conversation featuring Dr. Calvin Schermerhorn, a Professor of History at Arizona State University and author of The Plunder of Black America: How the Racial Wealth Gap Was Made, Dr. Alexandria Davis, an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Virginia Commonwealth University, and Gilbert T. Bland, the President and CEO of the Urban League of Hampton Roads.
About The Event
Each panelist will share their perspective on the historic relationship between wealth and civic power, and how both shape the conditions we see in our communities today. The discussion will invite the audience to consider how the lessons of our history can help us better understand today’s America and to learn more about how Shockoe Institute hopes to contribute to the urgent work of civic repair.
